Close to the Gulf Stream and a gateway to the fish-rich waters of West Cork, Baltimore enjoys some of the finest sea angling in Ireland. There is plenty to interest the small-boat angler close to port and in the sheltered waters among the islands, while sea angling charter boats head farther offshore to the reefs and wrecks with which the area abounds in search of fish like cod, conger eel and monster common skate. Shark fishing for blue and porbeagle shark commences in May or June, while in late summer giant bluefin tuna provide the ultimate adrenaline rush.
There is also good fishing to be had without going afloat. The famous bass beaches of West Cork are nearby and the area has river and lake fishing too.
